The current trained alpha is available below as a free ZIP download for Chromium browsers. It includes the local name model; no DMZ login is needed. This is a test release for fabricated examples, not a Chrome Web Store listing or independently validated protection.
Install the test release
Download the ZIP from this page, verify its published SHA-256 checksum if desired, and extract it before installing. The download includes START-HERE.html with bilingual instructions.
- Extract the supplied archive into a dedicated folder; do not load the ZIP itself.
- In a Chromium browser, open the Extensions page, enable Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Select the extension subfolder containing manifest.json. Keep that extracted folder on your computer.
- Open a new or reloaded ChatGPT or Claude tab. The extension icon opens settings and shows the active tab’s status.
- Try a fabricated text example. Inspect the submitted markers, local restored reply and any warnings. Never use real sensitive data to evaluate the preview.
Current coverage
The preview supports selected text paths on chatgpt.com and claude.ai. Chromium preview builds exist; Firefox, mobile apps, other chat sites and every possible send path are not verified. This download is the trained build with the large local Icelandic name model. Its first scan can take several seconds. It falls back to basic masking with a warning if that scanner fails.
Warnings matter
Masking is best effort. A scanner or composer failure can leave text unmasked; submission continues with a visible warning. A trained-scanner failure falls back to basic detection and may miss names. Files, images and attachments are sent unchanged with a warning. Unsupported paths and site changes can bypass interception.
Temporarily pause DMZ
In extension Settings, choose Setja DMZ í 15 mínútna hlé (Pause DMZ for 15 minutes). Masking and reply restoration stop only in the active chat tab; new text is sent without masking. Other tabs remain enabled. Choose Virkja DMZ aftur (Resume DMZ) to resume immediately. The pause also ends automatically or on reload, and its session mapping is preserved.
Update, reset or remove
For an unpacked update, replace the folder with the verified replacement build, reload it in Extensions and reload chat tabs. Resetting the active tab’s session clears its mapping, so older replies can no longer be restored. Reloading or closing the chat tab also clears that session. Remove DMZ through the browser’s Extensions page. Removal does not delete text already sent to an AI service.
